Ending Summer

Next »

September 3rd through 9th, 2013

It was the week after Labor day. Football season is upon us, the kids are back in school, the nights cooler and many are correctly calling it Fall. However, there is typically a bit of Summer spillover into those first few weeks of September. This year is typical so far. The previous week's four inches of rain continues to keep streams and creeks flowing, albeit at a slower rate than last week. Why the slower rate? Simple, we did not get one drop of rain this week. Boo! Large rocks on the shore that were just covered last week are peeking above the surface again. We need rain to hold the gains in lake level made this year. Only a few more loads of wood and there will be enough for the 2014 maple syrup season. It was hot last Saturday but that would be the exception to the cooling off rule of Fall. The lake is getting close to 70°F which is swimmable, but just barely. My personal lowest swimming temperature is 62°F. After it falls below that, it's time to find the Christmas decorations and unwrap the ice-in contest. Currently it's time to push muscles hard and put off sleep while we still have boats in and Rafto! to play. Oh sure, this will certainly lead to some sort of injury but there will be plenty of time to heal up before we do it all again next year!

-Nemo, convalescing nicely thank you.
