Post-Post-Peak Weekend

Next »

October 8th through 10th, 2010

The weathermen predicted a sunny, warm weekend. They got it right. The sky was clear and the temperature was in the lower 70s°F on Saturday and warmer on Sunday.. We plunked a canoe in Wabikon on Saturday to do an annual exploration of the Island and the channel. The Wabikon-Riley channel seemed a bit deeper than the last time we explored it. There was also a few skunked fishermen and an eagle. The trees on the island are holding onto their color better than their shore based counterparts. The big rock on the south side of the island is still there and hasn't changed much. The main west shore mid-island campsite hasn't changed much either. On Sunday, the phone booth (the first phone service on the lake) was moved to a slab poured near the place it occupied in the 40's. It'll be wired up in the next year or so. Ta-da! It was hard to leave on Sunday. The northwood's weather seemed like the stuff the lake gets in late August, not mid October. The golf course was largely empty. The snow fencing is going up at Nicolet, but that only affects balls hit onto the rough. Mrs Nemo pegged the top of the 150 marker on 6 with a screaming worm-burning drive. It did not break too much and most of the pieces went back together.

-Nemo was surprised that "The Heaven" (aka Pizza Rat) is for sale.
