Footstock Weekend

August 20th through 22nd, 2010

Lake Lucerne
The weekend started with a thunderstorm. Over 1 inch of rain and many watts of lightning. The compactor at the dump was fried by one or more of the strikes.
Lake Lucerne
The sky was mostly blue and the winds lite to moderate for the start of Footstock on Saturday.
Lake Lucerne
There were plenty of long runs despite weed related boat power problems.
Lake Lucerne
Plenty of note-worthy crashes too.
Lake Lucerne
Lake Lucerne continues to be clear and is becoming colder. The lake was 77°F on Sunday.
Lake Lucerne
I've never seen so many fish around the north end of the lake. Fishing should be good for several more weeks.
Lake Lucerne
This can be a tricky time of year weather-wise. Summer can linger around for a while or pay the check and head for the exit. It looks like this year Summer has ordered dessert and a refill on the coffee. The sticking around of the hot, unstable air also holds the hope of a few inches of late August rain. The lake is holding its own this year but not making much headway in recovering some depth. We need rain. On a better note, we always come across several algae blooms while diving this time of year. This year there have been none. Also, mead isn't too bad as long as you let the crushed specialty grains steep until the desired level of spiciness is achieved.
