Deer Hunting Weekend

November 20th through 22nd, 2009

Lake Lucerne
Saturday morning was a frosty and quiet one. As the last of the melting hoarfrost dripped on the heads and backs of thousands of deer hunters, we donned blaze orange sweatshirts and went golfing. (Golfing! In November! In Northern Wisconsin! What a great late fall!)

Bar-night on Saturday was well attended due, in no small part, to 4 different kinds of soups and babyback ribs. There was also pool, beverages, twice baked potatoes, bar rail bowling, and a cigar that was described by some as, "A solid medium bodied cigar, filled with complex earth flavors and a pleasent coffee ground taste. It was also very smooth." One deer hunter was quoted as calling it "Stinky". Philistine.

We got almost one half an inch of rain last week. We need more. Much more.

Before we reluctantly headed back home on Sunday, storm windows were checked, routers were reset, and pumpkins were battoned down for the winter.

It's nice today, but don't be fooled. Winter will be here with all its fury in just weeks. Hopefully it will come with plenty of rain, ice, and snow. The lake really, really needs it.
