The weather for the weekend was predicted to be warm and dry. The forecasters did not lie.

The final lawn mowing went well. There were no frozen patches or bat attacks. So much better than July's frozen patches and August's bat attacks.

Golf! It was warm enough to golf! The course was in pretty good shape and there were plenty of tee times.

The cattails we have seen grow on the course since April, are exploding in fluffy, white puffs.

The water hazards at the Nicolet Country Club are low. Not as low as Lucerne though.

This is the only time of the year that bumper golf is possible on some of the holes. I'd like to see that fence up all summer and made about 20 feet higher.

Pushed a ball into the trap on 7. I was glad it did not land in one of the many deep deer hoof prints that covered the entire area.

The long shadows on the course just before 3:40 PM gave late Saturday afternoon a strange, eerie feeling.

A small flock of white birds (snow geese? Swans?) took a break early Sunday morning on the north end of the lake.

The lake level is still very low. I remember floating over these rocks in a fishing boat just a few years ago.

A feeling of seasonal change was thick in the air on Sunday. The crystal blue skies of Saturday had been replaced with high clouds that filtered the warmth from the sunlight. The wind shifted from the south to the west/northwest. Should have played one more round before we left the northwoods. The next golf at Nicolet is several feet of snow, ice, and cold away. In the short term there's deer hunting in 2 weeks, then the opening of downhill ski season, and then the 19th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War. Christmas, New Years, and Thanksgiving are in there somewhere too.<br><br><br>-Nemo
