Last Summer Weekend

September 18th through 20th, 2009

Lake Lucerne
On Friday evening, the lake was calm, the sky clear, and the air cool, but not as cool as it normally is this time of year.

'Twas great weather for the end of the summer weekend. Fires were lit to take the chill from the local air while we waited for the Space Station to pass over the lake area. It did. We caught it twice on Friday and once again on Saturday.
Lake Lucerne
'Tis the height of "Strange Berry" season. They inedibly colored the northwoods all weekend.

There were red ones too.

The "Giant Mushroom Hazards" near the 5th hole at Nicolet are unique in the world of golf.

And the trap is growing. Better to be short with your approach shot on 5 than end up here, unless you have a Mushroom Wedge. Remember to be careful not to step on any smurfs when transversing the area (unless one is carrying a Maxfli Noodle 1 in its little arms. Then kick that little bugger across Hwy 8 for me.)

Earlier, there were signs that peak color would come early to the lake area. Now, with the warmer weather, it seems that the first weekend in October should be just about right, making it a normal year for peak.
