The First Summer-Like Weekend of 2009

June 12th through 14th, 2009

Lake Lucerne
The clouds that greeted us on Friday pushed on to the east by Saturday morning. The lake was very calm and un-skied.
Lake Lucerne
Almost 0.5 inches of rain fell last week. I had hoped for more, but it was better than nothing. An additional 0.25 fell Saturday evening, starting at 5:15 PM (our tee time).
Lake Lucerne
While enjoying a campfire (fire danger is Low) on Friday night, we were treated to one of those great northwoods sunsets..
Lake Lucerne
Bugs! Big ones, small ones, flying ones, crawling ones, biting ones, and ones that fly into any open head hole. The lake area has 'em all. Bring bug spray and a small club (for the bigger ones).
Lake Lucerne
Eric Hafsoos sent me this picture of a deer swimming around on the east shore. While it may look like a deer, could it be a young Lake Lucerne Monster? Like Nessie, only smaller and less Scottish. Until now, Lake Lucerne Monsters were thought to be extinct due to their unfortunate fate of being the favorite meal of another rare northern Wisconsin creature, the Hodag.
Lake Lucerne
Summer appears to have finally come to the lake. The water temperature rose to 66°F on Sunday which is fine for Lake Lucerne Monsters and Hodags, but a little cold for humans. Many storms are predicted for this week. Let's hope for a few inches of rain.
