First Ski Weekend

Next »

December 12th through 14th, 2008

We made it up just after sunset on Friday. The outside temperature was 17°F. Inside the bar it was 40°F. After turning up the thermostat, the inside temperature fell to 38°F. Yukon Jack, made "For hoary nights when men struggle to keep their fires lit and their cabins warm". Okay, we are a man and a woman (not men) and are at a cold bar (not a cabin) but these are just semantics. For the record, Friday and Saturday nights were hoary. It should work, right? After a shot on Saturday, the 36°F inside temperature felt like....36°F. We called the furnace man and slept at Neil's. The skiing at Brule on Saturday was great. There was very good snow and no lines at the lifts. I am so sore today I can hardly stand it. On Sunday, using sore, ski weary muscles, a hole was made in the ice on the lake. There are 5.5 inches of very clear ice. It will be much thicker by next weekend. The furnace part is coming Monday. We'll be back to enjoy much more heat and not so much Yukon Jack in a week or two.

-Nemo
