The Weekend Before Labor Day Weekend

After catching a ride up-north Friday afternoon, I found myself standing on the dock. While looking at the lake, an eagle flew just feet above my head, turned and perched in a large white pine. He is in the center of the picture. See him? No? OK....

Humming birds were sucking feeders dry and fighting amongst (amongst!) themselves all weekend.

Most trees are still very green, but some are giving a hint of a fall preview.

The lake level is, well, down. Very down. As low as it was before ice-in last year. As bad as it is on the north end for boats and lifts, you really have to feel for the poor souls on the shallower south end. Are the buoys still afloat or have they become ugly beach ornaments?

Weekend sunsets made the trip worth every mile.

There was rainwater on the lawn chairs! We got about quarter of an inch. Not much, but better than nothing.

The lake temperature is 70°F. It looks like it will hold close to that through labor day weekend. If boat owners manage to get their craft off the lifts this weekend, pulling them out of the lake won't be that bad. We waited until October one year. The lake was 50°F at the boat landing. It was windy and wavy too. That year's boat pulling was bad.
